Way's Packet Directory, 1848-1994, mentions a Capt John LaBarge 3 times and once refers to him as John B. LaBarge. Capt John LaBarge is listed as master of the A.C. Goddin when she was "Snagged and lost at Lower Bonhomme Island, including cargo, Apr 20, 1857...Bonhomme Bend on the Missouri River is between Miles 41.3 and 37.6"
